Depth Over Variety: Why Focused Learning Works Better
When preparing for SQE 1, one of the main difficulties is how unfocused learning can become over time.
During my own preparation, I made a deliberate decision early on. I chose to work with one core set of materials and complete it properly, rather than collecting multiple courses. This was not because other resources lacked quality, but because switching between providers made it harder to see how the same topics were being tested.
Depth over variety
Working consistently with one provider meant engaging with the same concepts repeatedly, in slightly different forms. That repetition made gaps in understanding easier to spot and reduced the risk of assuming a topic was "done" simply because it had been seen before.
Looking beyond my own experience, I have noticed that many candidates accumulate materials in response to uncertainty. The content across providers is mostly the same. What changes is the wording. What matters more is whether the same rule can be applied accurately across different fact patterns.
If you are using multiple course providers, it may be worth asking whether you are going deeper, or simply wider.
